Meet Our Physicians
George L. Holmes III, MD
Dr. Holmes is the founding physician of Family Practice Associates of Southern Hills. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and is Board Certified in Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Holmes is presently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Southern Hills Medical Center. He served as Chief of Staff of Southern Hills Medical Center and President of the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Holmes is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine (Department of Family Practice) and serves as a preceptor at Vanderbilt University Medical School and Meharry Medical College.
Dr. Holmes was honored in 2001 by the Tennessee Academy of Family Medicine with its prestigious Family Physician of the Year award. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Tennessee Academy of Family physicians, American Medical Association and the Nashville Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Holmes has been an active member of the Brentwood Community for many years, including service on the Board of Trustees of several local schools, coaching youth activities at the YMCA for 10 years, and serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Holmes now resides in Brentwood with his wife. They have three sons and two grandsons and one granddaughter.
Robert G. Bishop Jr., M.D.
Dr. Bishop has been in practice with Family Practice Associates of Southern Hills since 1994. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Practice. He completed his Family Practice Residency at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, FL and had active staff privileges from 1990-1993 in Hamilton, Bermuda, at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Bishop also served as Chief of Staff of Southern Hills Medical Center, as well as President of the Tennessee Academy of Family Practice (Andrew Jackson Chapter). Dr. Bishop is currently a preceptor for Vanderbilt University's Medical School. Memberships include American Board of Family Physicians (Diplomate), and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr Bishop and his wife reside in Nashville with their three daughters.
Matthew L. Brust, MD
Dr. Brust joined Family Practice Associates of Southern Hills in the summer of 1996. He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Brust is Board Certified in Family Practice. He completed his internship at Charleston Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, and his Family Practice Residency at The University of Tennessee, Memphis. After an internship, Dr. Brust served for three years as U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Santa Ana, California.
Dr. Brust is Board Certified in Family Practice. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Tennessee Medical Association, and the Nashville Academy of Medicine. Dr. Brust has served two separate terms as the Chief of Family Medicine of Southern Hills Medical Center. Since July of 2004, he has served as the Chairman of the Clinical Ethics Committee. Dr. Brust has served as a Medical School preceptor for Vanderbilt University, Meharry Medical College, and the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Brust enjoys taking care of the entire family including infants and senior adults. He can also provide minor surgical procedures, exercise stress testing, and screening colonoscopy.
Dr. Brust and his wife have three children and reside in Nashville.
Christopher D. Holloway, MD
Dr. Holloway joined Family Practice Associates of Southern Hills in the summer of 2002. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Holloway completed his residency training with Chesterfield Family Practice in Richmond, VA.
Dr. Holloway is Board Certified in Family Practice and is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and formerly the Medical Society of Virginia. Dr. Holloway has provided medical volunteer service with the Love Clinic in Richmond, Virginia by offering medical assistance among a team of physicians to local indigent populations. He also served in the SMILE program in Charlottesville, Virginia as a big brother/mentor to siblings of patients diagnosed with pediatric neoplasms.
Dr. Holloway is a major in the USAR. He and his wife currently reside in Nashville with their two children.
Stephen P. Johnson, MD
Dr. Johnson joined the Family Practice Associates at Southern Hills in the summer of 1997. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Johnson completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Johnson is Board Certified in Family Practice and is a member of the American Medical Association, the TAFP, the American Academy of Family Practice, and the Christian Medical Society and Dental Society. He has served as the Chief of Family Medicine at Southern Hills Medical Center and the Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Johnson does both inpatient and outpatient medical care. He is trained in the medical care of infants, children, adults, and seniors. Complete family care and prevention are his emphasis.
Dr. Johnson currently resides in Brentwood with his wife and three children.
Jonathan A. Kary, MD
Dr. Kary joined Family Practice Associates of Southern Hills in the summer of 2002. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, Illinois. He completed his internship and residency Program in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Kary received multiple scholarships and was awarded the Critic’s Choice Award for the American Lung Association. He served on various committees throughout his residency program and was published in 1997 following research in the area of Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior.
Dr. Kary is Board Certified and is a member of the American Academy for Family Physicians. He serves as a clinical preceptor for the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine. He enjoys hiking, skiing, playing piano, and involvement in church activities.
Dr. Kary resides in Franklin with his wife, two daughters, and son.
Rohit Seem, MD
Dr. Seem joined the Family Practice Associates of Southern Hills in January 2007. Following completion of his medical school training in India, he came to The University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he gained research experience with a master's degree in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He completed his residency training in Family Medicine from University of Iowa affiliated Broadlawns Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. He was in private practice in Iowa for 5 years before relocating to Tennessee.
Dr. Seem is Board Certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is an active member of the American Medical Association and the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians. He has been the recipient of the America's Top Family Doctors Award by the Consumers' Research Council of America in 2006, 2007 & 2008. He enjoys taking care of patients from the age group of infants through seniors, and has special interest in preventive health care and care of patients with chronic diseases like heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes.
Dr. Seem and his wife currently reside in Brentwood with their two sons.
